WELCOME TO METASCHOOLBERLIN

With the growing dominance of Web3 and artificial intelligence, democracy and justice around the world are increasingly under threat. Every day, more theorists, politicians, lawyers, and activists step forward to defend democratic values, and diverse approaches to strengthening democratic resilience are being developed both within and beyond academia. Yet, the proponents of the different perspectives rarely engage in meaningful dialogue with one another. Monologue has long been the dominant mode of operation of major tech corporations, and as AI systems expand their reach, this monologic power grows stronger—amplifying the risk of control by a small number of powerful actors.

MetaSchoolBerlin (MSB) is grounded in the principles of pluralistic futures, accessibility, and the protection of protected characteristics—those who are structurally marginalized—while actively exploring alternative and critical approaches to artificial intelligence.

The MSB serves as a platform for immigrants, minorities, persons with disabilities, individuals with chronic or intractable conditions, older adults, people living in remote or disadvantaged areas, as well as for individuals and communities whose ways of thinking, knowing, and imagining the world unfold outside dominant Western paradigms of subjectivity and knowledge.

Join us to support marginalized voices and transform the systems that perpetuate discrimination, building a more pluralistic and just future together—through Alternative AI, creativity, and inclusive participation.

MSB ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION

One of the most pressing challenges of our time lies in the current state of higher education. A major shortcoming of universities and colleges is their limited capacity to respond to the rapidly evolving needs of society and to anticipate the skills, knowledge, and forms of expertise that future societies will require. Traditional academic structures often remain disconnected from the social, technological, and cultural transformations that are reshaping how knowledge is produced, shared, and applied.
The evolving landscape of higher education is a cornerstone of societal transformation and calls for continuous innovation, the emergence of new academic disciplines, and a critical revision of outdated educational models. Rethinking education today is inseparable from rethinking participation, access to knowledge, and the democratization of learning in digital and post-digital societies.
Alternative education addresses these gaps by creating flexible, experimental, and socially responsive learning environments. It is designed for scientists, researchers, and practitioners across disciplines who recognize the importance of non-academic, community-based, and experiential sources of knowledge. It focuses on highly innovative research areas and emerging questions that have not yet found a stable place within conventional institutions. The landscape of alternative education remains in permanent transformation: new research units and experimental platforms emerge to explore fundamental and speculative questions, while others dissolve once their fields become integrated into traditional academic structures.
In this sense, alternative education does not stand in opposition to academia but acts as its critical laboratory—testing new forms of collective knowledge production, inclusive participation, and future-oriented learning aligned with the principles of digital democracy and metacratic governance.

SCHOOL OF META CBT

Monthly Philosophical Discussion

Every First Friday, 18:00–20:00 CET

Modern life, shaped by digital technologies and AI, brings unique psychological challenges. Unlike conventional or “pop-therapy” approaches that simply tell you “you are not alone,” the School of MetaCBT helps you recognize that you are unique and singular, and guides you to discover your own personal path to face life’s challenges.

Using philosophical insights, cutting-edge cognitive therapies, and MetaCBT therapy, we guide individuals to embrace their singularity and develop their own creative methods for interacting with themselves, others, and their environment.

METACRACY CORE PROJECT

Metacracy is a transdisciplinary research and learning initiative that centers on alternative AI, focusing on the critical examination of dominant industrial AI paradigms while exploring and prototyping more equitable, participatory, and socially accountable socio-technical alternatives.
The project examines how algorithms, language models, and AI infrastructures reshape power, identity, and democratic possibility, and it prioritizes community co-creation, creative education, and art-based methodologies to treat the digital divide as structural, cultural, and symbolic. Through theory, participatory design, community workshops, and experimental learning, Metacracy builds infrastructures for marginalized voices to shape the technical, narrative, and institutional rules of alternative AI futures.
