Project Metacracy
With the growing dominance of Web3 and the metaverse, democracy and justice around the world are increasingly under threat. Every day, more and more groups of theorists, politicians, lawyers, and activists are stepping forward in defense of democracy, and various perspectives are being developed both within and outside academia on how democracies can become more resilient. However, proponents of different perspectives on transformation processes seldom engage in dialogue with one another. Monologue has always been the main method of tech giants, and as the metaverse grows, there is a risk it will be controlled by a few large corporations. Metacracy provides theoretical models of ownership and control of future digital spaces for all. The Metacracy project emphasizes the value of theoretical foundations as well as deliberative engagement in shaping, designing, and creating the neglected potentials of the metaverse. As the Metacracy project grows, it will provide theoretical foundations and practical models of ownership and control of future digital spaces for all.
The project could also be regarded as a call for immigrants, minorities, individuals with disabilities, patients with intractable conditions, older people, those who haven’t had access to digital technology, and people who live in remote or disadvantaged areas, to join the project, build supportive networks, and contribute to the development of new ideas and initiatives. In the context of the Metacracy project, "we" are not "protected characteristics." We are creators and builders.
The Metacracy project aims to promote networking between universities and actors from outside academia. It seeks to explore the role of the metaverse in providing a platform for marginalized voices. MSB deeply believes that if the companies building the metaverse lack diverse voices, we will make the same mistakes that we made with social networking and Web 2.0. Metacracy plans to define new roles for minorities and protected groups, allowing them to play active and powerful roles in building new possible worlds. Our approach is not to passively protect individuals and groups from discrimination; instead, we seek to open a path for their active agency.
Join us to offer solutions to pressing social problems and enrich the worlds we live in.
